Cruel Intentions (1999)

In the hip, teen remake of Dangerous Liaisons, step-siblings Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) and Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) make an erotic bet involving the innocent Annette (Reese Witherspoon) and an equally beautiful vintage Jaguar convertible; in the long summer before school begins again.

Dark and mischievous with its eroticism and humour, and with more relationships than you can shake a stick at, Cruel Intentions certainly delivers more than your average teen fare. However the cast does seem rather lightweight, and the moralistic ending does dampen the spirit the film is aiming for.

Funny yet dark but with false intentions of superiority, this teen flick is mildly enjoyable though the ending leaves a rather fluffy aftertaste.
